Following their two full lengths released on DFA, YACHT are back with a reformed setup in I Thought The Future Would Be Cooler, a well polished future disco sound heavy LP that places Claire L.Evans and her vocals on the dead centre of the band’s sonic structure. While the new wave bass driven tracks like ”Hologram” and ”War on Women” are clearly the YACHT sound that the fans of the band have come to love over the years, cuts like ”I Thought The Future Would Be Cooler” and ”I Wanna Fuck You Till I’m Dead” distinctly displays the politically conscious pop punk sound that the band is evolving into. This distinctly Los Angeles album is reminiscent of the type of fever dream that pops up on a musky August evening in the Valley. The synth pads on the album are very much italo disco whereas the bass driven backbone is distinctly punk rock. Evans’ songwriting and vocals are more empowered than ever before. YACHT have some thing to say and You. Will. Listen. Recommended for the fans of Neon Indian / The Juan MacLean / Pony.
